Edward and Garrett are miserable without Bella, namely Edward. It had been a month since she told them that she couldn’t do it anymore. She couldn’t risk her career for a whim. Edward was more heartbroken than Garrett. Edward had truly loved her, wanting more than what they had. Garrett had already started dating, but he was determined to bring Edward and Bella back together. They were destined to be together.

Bella was just as miserable, but she pushed herself, focusing on her job. James, her ex-husband, had fallen off the planet, thankfully. He had ruined the happiness she felt for the first time in years. She hated him for it, but she couldn’t dwell on it. One day, as she was going out for lunch with Marcus, her new boss, she ran into Garrett. He pulled aside and asked to meet with her. She tried to squirm away, but the sadness in his eyes broke her. They agreed to meet at a local pub near her home after work. Once there, Garrett explains to her that Edward is in love with her and that he is dying inside. Bella asked what Garrett felt. He explained that he did love her, but he wasn’t in love with her. Edward was lost and fading away. Bella’s tears and her own heart breaking affirmed Garrett’s hypothesis that she loved Edward, too. Fear broke them apart.

Will love bring them back together?

“Bella, girl, I love you, but you need to shower,” Essie said. “You did not come all the way to bumfuck Forks just to wallow in your own filth.” Essie plugged her nose, waving her hand in front of her face.

“I came all the way to bumfuck Forks to get away from the nightmare that is my life, Esme,” Bella snarled, glaring back at her best friend. “I just want to stay in this bed for the rest of my life because I suck. I suck as an attorney. I suck as a friend. I suck as a girlfriend. I suck. My life sucks and I ruin everything I touch.” She snuggled deeper into the bed, trying to forget the clusterfuck that was her life.

“Shit, Bells,” Essie grumbled, pulling the covers off her best friend’s too skinny and extremely smelly body. “You were not this broken up about the end of your god damned marriage.”

“That’s because my marriage sucked,” Bella said, hiding underneath a pillow. Tossing it away, she huffed out a breath. “Who would have thought that my ex-husband was a sick, disgusting voyeur who wanted to fuck up my life? I hate him and I hate that he made me ruin the two best things in my life. Motherfucking asshole.”

“I still don’t understand why you broke up with them. Edward and Garrett were awesome. They loved you. So what if James filmed you?” Essie shrugged.

“Do I need to explain it to you again?” Bella snapped, glaring at Essie.

Restoration Teaser

Bella scowled at her best friend, dragging her tired body out of bed. She was sore all over and her heart was weary. She felt empty and lost, like there was a part of her that was missing. All she wanted was to call Edward and Garrett, begging them for forgiveness. Anything to stop the ache and suffering she was enduring. It had been two weeks since she drove away from Edward and Garrett at the Banner’s renovation site. Essie, bless her heart, opened up her house to Bella when she showed up out of nowhere, to help her get over the best relationship she had ever had.

But, Bella didn’t think she’d ever get over this. She was destined to be alone and it terrified her.

Marcus had agreed to give her a couple of weeks off since Aro gave his youngest brother a head’s up about Bella’s state of mind upon her return to Seattle. Marcus did not know about the tapes, but he knew that Bella had a difficult time in New York, needing some vacation time to recuperate from her ordeal. Marcus readily agreed since Bella had a lot accrued time off since she never took a vacation, even when she was sick. She was dedicated to her job, but she was anxious to get back.

If anything, for the distraction. Something to keep her from remembering Edward and Garrett. Working herself to the bone, to the point of exhaustion, might be just the trick.

Under Construction Teaser

Bella packed up her belongings and left her office at Volturi and Volturi Law Offices. She put her briefcase in the backseat, driving to her gorgeous home on Mercer Island. She saw Edward’s black truck in the driveway. She smiled, pulling into the garage. Edward always knew how to make a busy week better. A warm kiss, a tight embrace and some sensual love making. God, that sounds ideal. Carrying her bag into the house, she saw Edward sitting at the kitchen island, working on his laptop, creating a design for another client in her neighborhood for a kitchen, living room and powder room renovation.

“I love coming home and seeing you here,” she said, wrapping her arms around his waist.

“I love being here,” Edward replied, kissing her hand and saving his work.  He closed the laptop, turning to face her. “Thank you for giving me a key.”

“You never gave back the key I gave you when you were working here, Edward,” she teased, stepping between his legs and kissing his lips. “How are the Copes? All done?”

“Pssh, no. She changed her mind about the backsplash. Again. I have all of this tile that I ordered for her, that I can’t use. I’m about ready to put my head in the oven,” he grumbled, scrubbing his hands over his face and tugging on his hair.

“Don’t do that. I’d be very, very sad,” Bella pouted, her lips moving down his jaw and suckling behind his ear. “Can’t you or Garrett use your charm to convince her to use the tile she picked?”

“The only one I want to charm is you, Ms. Swan,” Edward purred, his hands finding her ass and squeezing it tightly. He smiled crookedly. “Garrett’s on his way and we’re taking you out to dinner.” Bella made a face. “What’s wrong?”

“I’d really rather get out of these clothes and just stay here,” she pouted, gesturing to her charcoal grey pantsuit. “This week was just … ugh! A ton of little things that made my head ache.”

“How about a compromise?” Edward suggested, kissing her sexy little button nose. “We go out for a casual dinner and then we can come back here to watch a movie. I’m certain you don’t want to cook for our horny asses.”

“I don’t mind cooking. I find it cathartic,” Bella giggled, hugging him tightly. He squeezed her, loving the feel of her sexy body pressed against him. “But, having a relaxed dinner sounds perfect. Let me change, okay?” Edward nodded, kissing her once more and watching her saunter out of the kitchen.

Under Construction Extended Summary

Okay, okay. I couldn't wait until Tuesday to post this. As some of you know, this story was going to be my submission for Fandom 4 Disaster Relief. They changed the due dates, which meant that this story would not be posted until July. Too long to wait, in my opinion. So, I'm going to write something different and begin posting this story in October.

Without further ado ... the extended summary for Under Construction.

Bella Swan, a divorced adoption attorney, is relishing her time with her two hot and attentive boyfriends, Edward Masen and Garrett Keyes. Never in her wildest dreams had she ever considered being with two men, let alone two men who adored her as much as they do. Their relationship is perfection. With all new relationships, they are trying to navigate the ins and outs of being together. Their little bubble of sexual exploration is threatened when Bella is sent to New York City for a high profile adoption proceeding.

With a heavy heart, Bella flies out to New York to meet her new clients, close friends of Aro Volturi, her former boss. Carmen and Eleazar D’Amato are finalizing the adoption of a child that they fostered for almost a year and a half, but dealing with them is easy. Running into her ex-husband is not. He manages to appear everywhere once he found out that Bella was in New York. His new marriage has crumbled and his estranged wife has taken their child, hiding him away from James. His job is hanging by a thread and he now blames Bella for everything.

On a whim, Edward and Garrett fly out to New York to surprise Bella. She loses herself with them, but they had an audience. But, who and to what end?

Monday morning dawned too quickly. Bella showered with both Edward and Garrett, her heart full but her mind reeling. She had opened her heart, and instead of giving it to one man, she gave it to two. Each of them were her ideal. Edward was her rock, sweet and attentive, showering her love and affection. Garrett was her fun, adventure and lust. He made her feel sexy and a bit dirty, in the best of ways, of course. His dominating persona made her quiver. Though, she was more emotionally attracted to Edward. Bella was confused, wanting both of them, but also wanting to see how a relationship with them, individually, would work out.

It can’t, Bella. Could it?

She couldn’t choose. She didn’t want to choose.

Well, she could. Her heart belonged to Edward, mostly. He was the polar opposite of James and Garrett.

After their shower, Bella asked for some time to get ready. Garrett kissed her neck before shuffling to the former oyster bathroom. Edward gently cupped her chin, his eyes radiating with love, before he pressed his mouth to hers. With a smile, he left, and Bella clutched the edge of the counter. This weekend had been a roller coaster of emotions, most of them good. Though, for a consummate planner like Bella, this situation was unreal.

Were they just catering to a divorcée because she spread her legs?

Was this their bonus for a job well done?

Did they really want to be with her? Or were their words from last night just like her wedding vows? Empty promises?

Did she want a relationship with both? Garrett was so much like James, it frightened her.

Did she want Edward exclusively?

Did she want Garrett exclusively?

What was their future, and did she want a future with both of them?

“I believe that’s it, Ms. Swan,” Caius, her attorney, murmured. “Your husband agreed to the monetary, personal furnishings, and property concessions you proposed. All I need is for you to sign here.”

Bella picked up the heavy silver pen, signing the divorce decree, ending her nearly ten-year marriage. She had been blindsided by James’ proposition of getting divorced. Never in her mind did she expect he would have asked to end their fairy tale.

Bella and James started dating in college when James transferred to Northwestern during Bella’s junior year. They were paired up for a project in one of their classes. A friendship formed and slowly morphed into a sweet romance. They stayed together for the rest of their college careers, only breaking up when Bella went to law school at Harvard University. James was beginning his career as an advertising executive in Chicago. A long-distance relationship was not what he needed, nor did Bella. She had to focus on her studies.

A handful of one-night stands and mediocre relationships troubled Bella, not really satisfying her. When she finished her law degree, head hunters from various firms approached her. The one that caught her eye, Volturi and Volturi, was from Chicago. Packing her bags, she moved back to the city where she met and fell in love with James, only to fall into him again. Literally. James’ advertising firm was in the same building as Bella’s new law office. She had stumbled into the elevator and her ex-boyfriend caught her, preventing her from face-planting into his crotch. The sparks rekindled, and within a year, James and Bella moved in together. Two years after that, a proposal. Finally, after five years together, Bella and James had the fairy tale wedding, promising to love each other for the rest of their lives.

Ten years is more like it, Bella thought bitterly.
