Good News! Good News!

I woke up this morning and read some good news. It was desperately needed since I felt like total garbage over the weekend, but that's a story for another time. The good news is that Under Construction, in all its angsty glory, was voted #5 in the top ten fics completed in December.

Renovations

Isabella Swan, thirty-six, is reeling from her recent divorce from the man she thought she would be spending her forever, the rest of her life. James Hunter broke her heart when he told her wanted to end it. He didn’t fight her, giving her all of the money, all of the furniture and everything else Bella wanted. Her mind and heart shattered, Bella took all of her belongings and moved to the opposite end of the country from her ex-husband, close to a dear friend, Esme Cullen. She purchases a beautiful home, but in badly need of repair and updating.

Esme suggests two men, Edward Masen, twenty-six, and his business partner, Garrett Keyes, twenty-seven, for the job. Edward is an up and coming contractor whom Esme had used for her interior design business. Garrett was a carpenter and headed up the construction end of the business. Bella contacted the men, knowing that she was going to hire them. Their website spoke to her. The clean lines and use of high-end appliances and materials were exactly what she envisioned for her new home. Little did she know that when both men came to interview, she would be physically attracted to them as well?

Will these men renovate Bella’s new home or will the renovations spill over into other aspects of her life, giving her love life a much needed makeover?

After I calmed down from my euphoria of being in third place on TwiFanfictionRecs for Star Crossed, I got another post on my wall saying that I'll Be Home for Christmas and Under Construction are up for fic of the month for December. Edward and Garrett are miserable without Bella, namely Edward. It had been a month since she told them that she couldn’t do it anymore. She couldn’t risk her career for a whim. Edward was more heartbroken than Garrett. Edward had truly loved her, wanting more than what they had. Garrett had already started dating, but he was determined to bring Edward and Bella back together. They were destined to be together.

Bella was just as miserable, but she pushed herself, focusing on her job. James, her ex-husband, had fallen off the planet, thankfully. He had ruined the happiness she felt for the first time in years. She hated him for it, but she couldn’t dwell on it. One day, as she was going out for lunch with Marcus, her new boss, she ran into Garrett. He pulled aside and asked to meet with her. She tried to squirm away, but the sadness in his eyes broke her. They agreed to meet at a local pub near her home after work. Once there, Garrett explains to her that Edward is in love with her and that he is dying inside. Bella asked what Garrett felt. He explained that he did love her, but he wasn’t in love with her. Edward was lost and fading away. Bella’s tears and her own heart breaking affirmed Garrett’s hypothesis that she loved Edward, too. Fear broke them apart.

Will love bring them back together?

“Bella, girl, I love you, but you need to shower,” Essie said. “You did not come all the way to bumfuck Forks just to wallow in your own filth.” Essie plugged her nose, waving her hand in front of her face.

“I came all the way to bumfuck Forks to get away from the nightmare that is my life, Esme,” Bella snarled, glaring back at her best friend. “I just want to stay in this bed for the rest of my life because I suck. I suck as an attorney. I suck as a friend. I suck as a girlfriend. I suck. My life sucks and I ruin everything I touch.” She snuggled deeper into the bed, trying to forget the clusterfuck that was her life.

“Shit, Bells,” Essie grumbled, pulling the covers off her best friend’s too skinny and extremely smelly body. “You were not this broken up about the end of your god damned marriage.”

“That’s because my marriage sucked,” Bella said, hiding underneath a pillow. Tossing it away, she huffed out a breath. “Who would have thought that my ex-husband was a sick, disgusting voyeur who wanted to fuck up my life? I hate him and I hate that he made me ruin the two best things in my life. Motherfucking asshole.”

“I still don’t understand why you broke up with them. Edward and Garrett were awesome. They loved you. So what if James filmed you?” Essie shrugged.

“Do I need to explain it to you again?” Bella snapped, glaring at Essie.

“Everything is set up for Tuesday, Mrs. Baxter,” Bella said on her phone. “We’ll meet at the courthouse at ten and by lunchtime, Cole will be officially your son.” She listened as Mrs. Baxter prattled about complications that were not even a possibility. “Mrs. Baxter, relax. Cole’s birth mother signed over her parental rights when she was arrested and we waited the appropriate amount of time to find the birth father. I had my best private detectives looking. He’s gone. Or doesn’t want to be found. Trust me. Please?”

She hung up after Mrs. Baxter, finally took a breath and stopped fussing. Bella took off her glasses, rubbing her eyes. She was exhausted and cranky, wanting nothing more than to go home and cuddle with her men.

But, they had other ideas.

A date.

This week had gone on for far too long. Is it too late to cancel? She prayed that they would be amenable to canceling their plans.

Bella packed up her belongings and left her office at Volturi and Volturi Law Offices. She put her briefcase in the backseat, driving to her gorgeous home on Mercer Island. She saw Edward’s black truck in the driveway. She smiled, pulling into the garage. Edward always knew how to make a busy week better. A warm kiss, a tight embrace and some sensual love making. God, that sounds ideal. Carrying her bag into the house, she saw Edward sitting at the kitchen island, working on his laptop, creating a design for another client in her neighborhood for a kitchen, living room and powder room renovation.

“I love coming home and seeing you here,” she said, wrapping her arms around his waist.

“I love being here,” Edward replied, kissing her hand and saving his work.  He closed the laptop, turning to face her. “Thank you for giving me a key.”

“You never gave back the key I gave you when you were working here, Edward,” she teased, stepping between his legs and kissing his lips.

Thank you to all of you who took time out of your busy days to vote for Renovations for the top ten completed fics in August on TwiFanfictionRecs! With your votes, Renovations is a featured story on the site and can be found here: TwiFanfictionRecs: Renovations.  Additionally, Renovations finished in the top ten, coming in at seventh place. 

I really went out of my comfort zone with this story. Having Bella be with someone OTHER than Edward, writing a threesome and yeah, a lot of citrus, but still maintaining a plot. I also got the opportunity to work with Sally "Alice's White Rabbit" as my beta and she taught me a lot with her mad betaing skills. Thank you for your help, Sally! 

Now, Renovations is the first installment of the trilogy. The second installment, Under Construction, will begin posting on Sunday. Thank you to Christina Downs for betaing the second installment! She helped me make sense of the craziness in my head and talked me off the ledge with the ending. The third installment, Restoration, is in progress, but I'm going to work on it next weekend, to see if I can complete it so I can start posting it on Christmas Eve, my Christmas present to all of you.

Under Construction Teaser

Bella packed up her belongings and left her office at Volturi and Volturi Law Offices. She put her briefcase in the backseat, driving to her gorgeous home on Mercer Island. She saw Edward’s black truck in the driveway. She smiled, pulling into the garage. Edward always knew how to make a busy week better. A warm kiss, a tight embrace and some sensual love making. God, that sounds ideal. “Pssh, no. She changed her mind about the backsplash. Again. I have all of this tile that I ordered for her, that I can’t use. I’m about ready to put my head in the oven,” he grumbled, scrubbing his hands over his face and tugging on his hair.

“Don’t do that. I’d be very, very sad,” Bella pouted, her lips moving down his jaw and suckling behind his ear. “Can’t you or Garrett use your charm to convince her to use the tile she picked?”

“The only one I want to charm is you, Ms. Swan,” Edward purred, his hands finding her ass and squeezing it tightly. He smiled crookedly. “Garrett’s on his way and we’re taking you out to dinner.” Bella made a face. “What’s wrong?”

“I’d really rather get out of these clothes and just stay here,” she pouted, gesturing to her charcoal grey pantsuit. “This week was just … ugh! A ton of little things that made my head ache.”

“How about a compromise?” Edward suggested, kissing her sexy little button nose. “We go out for a casual dinner and then we can come back here to watch a movie. I’m certain you don’t want to cook for our horny asses.”

“I don’t mind cooking. I find it cathartic,” Bella giggled, hugging him tightly. He squeezed her, loving the feel of her sexy body pressed against him. “But, having a relaxed dinner sounds perfect. Let me change, okay?” Edward nodded, kissing her once more and watching her saunter out of the kitchen.
